  • The Shadow of Almighty God

    The Shadow of Almighty God

....He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High God shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty....(Psalms 91:1)

Do you dwell or would you dwell in the secret place of the Most High God and abide under the shadow of the Almighty?

For our protection, there is a secret place in the presence of God. It is a place that we can abide in. It is a place that everyone does not go, but it is completely accessible by the blood of the Lamb. The place of His presence is where strength is found. King David, found and experienced the protection of the upon his life, and he was able to acknowledge it. .....For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock..... (Psalms 27:5).

During the times of Moses, in the tabernacle, there was a place called the Holy of Holies. This was the place where the presence of God dwelt between the cherubim on the top of the Ark of the Covenant. Only the high priest once a year could step into that holy place and atone for all the sins of the people. It was the most holy place. For us as believers, we come to Jesus to bring us into the most holy place. His atonement was “once for all”. He died, was buried, and rose again. He split the veil of separation and opened up the presence of God, the secret place, for all that would believe and enter into it. Paul the apostle explains it in the following way: “But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption” (Hebrews 9:11-12). Now we enter the same way, through His precious blood, for it made a way for us.

The shadow of God Almighty speaks to us not only about the hope of His protection but His power, anointing and healing. Luke 1:35 states:.....and the power of the Highest will overshadow you. That is God stretches out His right hand to heal and do signs and wonders. When He stretches out His right hand upon His servants, the Bible tells, there rests the shadow of His right hand upon us: ......and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus(Acts 4:29-30). Interesting, right?

I, myself abide under the power shadow of God Almighty! Do you?

The book of Acts, tells the story on how through His servants, Jesus performed healing, signs, and wonders. It records at least 20 specific miracles and tells of 9 times when clusters of them occurred which I have listed below.

    1.  Many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. (Acts 2:43)

    2.  Through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. (Acts 5:12).

    3.  The shadow of Peter” healed some, and “a multitude gathered and were all healed” (Acts 5:15-16).

    4.  Stephen did great wonders and signs among the people (Acts 6:8).

    5.  The multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did (Acts 8:6).

    6.  The Lord granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands (Acts 14:3).

    7.  Barnabas and Paul declared how many miracles and wonders God had worked through them (Acts 15:12).

    8.  God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them  (Acts 19:11-12).

    9.  The rest of those on the island who had diseases also came and were healed” (Acts 28:9).

.....And through the hands of the apostles, many signs and wonders were done among the people. And they were all with one accord in Solomon’s Porch. Yet none of the rest dared join them, but the people esteemed them highly. And believers were increasingly added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women, so that they brought the sick out into the streets and laid them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might fall on some of themAlso, a multitude gathered from the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed (Acts 5: 12-16).

Although there has been a tremendous amount of chatter among the Christian community about Peter and the story of whether his shadow healed the sick. It is amazing to find what the Holy Scriptures reveal! In search of physical healing, large communities of people followed the annointed servants of the Lord in the hope to get physically healed. Peter, a meek and humble person, was of them followed by the people. He was not only a greatly admired figure by the people but a well respected and trusted person, so much that crows of people faithfully hoped to get near his shadow to get healed.

As we walk by faith, there isn't nothing wrong with wanting to be near the shadow of the servants of the Lord, after all the true servants of God abide under His shadow. It is precisely, in the ministry of Peter that we see how the right hand of the Holy Spirit of God rested upon Peter to heal and do signs and wonders. It is noticed, however, that was the faith of the people that make them believe that if they would get near Peter's shadow, they would be healed. It wasn't the shadow of Peter that healed people,it was the shadow of the right hand of God upon him! We read:.....The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord”...... (Luke 4:18-19).

The Lord's promise of His protection to those who want to dwell in His secret place and abide under His shadow, is still in effect today. Up until now also the extended right hand of the shadow of God rest upon His faithful servants, so, do not hesitate to abide under the shadow of the Almighty God or by faith get near the shadow of His anointed servants.
